BILL STEIN, Owner

Bill is the co-owner of Floating world. He regularly consults with collectors, institutions, appraisers and auction houses around the world, helping to identify and value their Japanese prints and paintings. Bill is a member of numerous dealers’ associations and has logged over 6 million miles promoting the collecting field. Bill has addressed meetings of collectors and appraisers and contributed to “Behind Paper Walls”, a catalogue dedicated to the early works and portraits of Jun’ichiro Sekino. He and his wife founded Floating World Gallery and continue to collect and sell artwork.

Roberta is the co-owner of Floating World. Together with Meredith, she manages consignments, inventory and our bidding platforms. She is the gallery’s expert on the artist Toshi Yoshida and is responsible for building his market worldwide.

MEREDITH STEIN, Gallery Manager

Meredith is the gallery and auction manager. Together with Roberta, she manages consignments, inventory and our online bidding platforms. Before taking on this role she traveled the country operating live auctions for LiveAuctioneers and Proxibid and has a resulting in-depth knowledge of the auction world. She is also a licensed auctioneer and a member of the Illinois State Auctioneers Association.

IAN MAGARGEE, Shipping Manager

Ian Magargee is the gallery’s shipping manager, art handler and preparator. Ian comes to us with several years of experience working for New York’s prestigious art handling company, Crozier Fine Arts, where he obtained in-depth training of current museum quality packing and installation procedures. He also worked as a preparator and carpenter at the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, OH and as an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University, where he received his MFA in 2008. Beyond his day-to-day activities at the gallery, Ian maintains an active art practice in which he’s influenced by non-objective and sculptural painting traditions, deploying both his carpentry skills and color sensibility in carefully crafted artworks which you can see here. Ian brings an attention to detail with an artist’s sensibility to all of our packages. Rest assured your next treasure from Floating World Gallery will arrive at your home in excellent shape.

CAITLIN WAGNER, Imaging Specialist

Caitlin Wagner is our imaging specialist and graphic designer. Her attention to detail and eye for color helps us serve our clients with top quality photo documentation of each unique lot we have to offer. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC), she has spent the past decade working with small businesses in a range of industries from fashion and retail to theatre and art while curating a broad range of transferable skills and a keen sense of collections management. Her time outside of Floating World Gallery is spent collaborating with other local artists and administrators at Comfort Station to present free public programming, coordinate community projects, and build systems of social support – empowering others to lead future initiatives that prioritize resource-sharing and accessibility.
