Born in Otaru in Hokkaido. Studied at Kawabata Art School. Exhibited with Nihon Hanga Kyokai in 1944, but soon taken prisoner of war in Siberia. Resumed exhibiting with Nihon Hanga Kyokai in 1949; member from 1954. Resumed exhibiting with Kokugakai in 1952; member from 1961. Moved to Tokyo in 1958, where he worked as an assistant to Kiyoshi Saito. Participated in international competitions and solo exhibitions in Tokyo, New York, Seattle, Chicago, and elsewhere.
