Western-style painter. Born in Ehime-ken; lived in Tokyo. Pupil of Matsubara Sangoro and Koyama Shotaro. In 1899 to Europe for study. In 1902 helped found the Taiheiyo Gakai. In Europe the following year, and again late in his life; also traveled in America. A frequent exhibitor and prize winner at the Bunten; also showed with the Teiten.
