Yoshitoshi’s Sagas of Beauty and Bravery

In the series Sagas of Beauty and Bravery, Yoshitoshi explored and reinterpreted themes of the supernatural in the context of the tales of the Suikoden.  While the images can be bloody and full of gore, they retain a charm often missing in his later works.  They are hopeful and charming expressions of a supremely-talented young man, and a bittersweet glimpse into a different artistic direction he might have taken but for his hard life and mental illness.

Since we had a near complete set, the sold prints remain as part of the exhibition.
